Cobweb Necklace I made!

College work - Unit 2&3 'Structure' 

For my final piece I produced a cobweb necklace made from wire and thread with an adjustable shoelace for the chain. I was trying to achieve an intriguing structure by repeating the same pattern but changing the scale to create a descending order. I particularly wanted the necklace to reflect the features of a cobweb to appear more realistic by using light materials and white thread. 

I was asked to photograph a model, capturing the abstract style of hair for a hairdresser to be entered in a styling competition. This was my first voluntary shoot were I was working with a model rather than just one of my friends. I wasn't familiar with the stylist either so I was quite nervous incase I wouldn't deliver. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. After a few shots I felt more comfortable and was able to direct the model to produce successful shots.

For my 2&3 Unit at college I as working in the theme of structure. I photographed some of my friends shoes, thinking about the structure of the legs and the angle of the camera as well as the lighting. It was difficult considering I was my own model and had to focus on the posture of my legs as well as the composition of the camera.

Mary Quant

For this design, I wanted to create a modern version of a 60's mini skirt so I used the basic design of a tulip skirt which is quite modern, instead of using a pleated or a straight skirt which were the main designs popular in the 6o's.Alternatively, I was inspired by the Mary Quant look therefore I  decided to use a black and white checkered pattern along the bottom of the skirt to portray a modern interpretation of a 60's mini skirt. I created a simple outfit by having a white sleeveless shirt tucked into the high-waisted tulip skirt revealing the bra and accessorizing with a  silver, anchor necklace.

'Age of Punk' Textiles Project

 So, this is the dress I created for my final textiles GCSE coursework. Although I decided to use the typical punk/rock based fabrics such as denim and tartan I didn't want to used the basic components like safety pins, studs and chains etc as that would make it quite heavy to wear. I kept the basic design quite simple but original. From the very start I knew I was going to used a peter pan collar but for the front design I originally planned to make three bows which vertically followed each other down the front of the dress and stopped before reaching the bottom half. However when I tried this out, my dress looked more like a clowns outfit than a festival frock so I decided to keep it simple with a small pocket on the right side. I got an A for this project which I am so pleased about as I probably worked the hardest for this than any of my other subjects. I don't get my whole folder back till the end of the year so round September, I think, but when I do I will upload the mood-board I made to inspire my design.
